The very recently opened FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL in Perth is a showpiece for both State and Commonwealth so Safety Step is extremely proud to have contributed anti-slip solutions to the project.
Being a massive $2 billion project our contribution was pretty modest in value, but in improving the practical safety of the building we think we made a significant impact.
Well ahead of construction the design team began examining and testing various stair nosings for use throughout the hospital and Safety Step nosings were fitted at trial locations for close examination. These tests, together with all face to face liaison with the constructors was handled completely by our extremely capable Agents in Perth, ABS WEST (www.abswest.com.au).
Against stiff competition by most of the big names in the nosing industry, Safety Step won the day with an unbeatable combination of quality, performance, value and reputation. Thanks ABS West for your persistence, support and total belief in our products.
Safety Step’s fine grade, black coloured composite fiberglass stair nosings were used extensively, particularly where high durability was a key requirement, and in other locations Safety Step architectural anti slip stair treads and nosings were installed.
ABS West has been the Western States leading Architectural Building Solution supplier for more than 30 years and though Owen Walsh Snr does show obvious signs of wear and tear from all that work, we are too polite to mention that to him. Now with Owen Jnr well established in the team they will continue to be involved with most of the States important building projects.
Owen Snr may tell you that his rugged good looks have been a key to their success but Safety Step can assure you that ABS has huge strengths in their reputation, image, flexibility, can-do attitude and family history. We are fortunate to have them represent our full range of industrial anti-slip, architectural anti-slip and glow in the dark way finding products.
Something about the hospital – Fiona Stanley is the first new tertiary public hospital to open in Western Australia in more than 50 years. it will also be one of the best public hospitals in Australia.
The 783-bed hospital is the largest building of its type ever undertaken by the State and has already drawn international acclaim. It will offer the most up-to-date medical technology and a full range of acute medical and surgical services.
